Use it as a badge holder? I actively ditched the lanyard that my school ID came on for something with a bit more flair.

I tend to receive things that contain a great deal of empty calories. I’d be stoked to get a key ring. (Not that I am complaining that my kids care enough to give...I always have two paper boxes worth of candy and cookies to take home on the last day in December.)

I’m taking a mental health day today. I blew my stack at two of my students yesterday. Two of my favorites, actually, but my favorites are always the ones who require the most love and I was tired and I’m going to straighten up my outdoor shop area and make a caddy for a Bose Wave Radio today.

One of the primary restorative means that the administration uses is to have the kids write notes to the teachers when they get out of hand. I wrote notes to the two kiddos I yelled at yesterday, and gave them to the AP this morning when I dropped off my sub lesson plans and he will present the notes for me.

Well, I hope it keeps going up for you. I’m not convinced. Will be very impressive if Musk manages to pull it all off (making Tesla a profitable, long-lasting automaker). Ever read Bob Lutz’s thoughts on the company?

Kinja'd!!! Rusty Vandura - www.tinyurl.com/keepoppo > davesaddiction @ opposite-lock.com
01/19/2018 at 12:18

Kinja'd!!!0

I’ve read some of what Lutz has had to say about Tesla. I think there is likely to be left handed or right handed spin generated about anything an American automotive industry guy says about anything, let alone Tesla.

But I think any way you slice it, Elon Musk has changed the game and will continue to do so. Am I profiting from pure hype? Maybe, but I’d good with that.

They are two huge personality, with huge ideas and huge opinions. It will be interesting whose analysis is correct in the end.

I’m rooting for his success (in all of his “moonshot” ventures), but I try to retain a healthy level of skepticism. If they don’t solve the Model 3 production issues very soon, I’m afraid they’ll be in a world of hurt.

I mean, the people who could afford to give Tesla a free, long term, $1000 loan can definitely afford to wait, but does anyone like waiting? Also, the tax refunds will be phasing out as well.

And green/new/shiny/techy.

I do wonder how many of these people will be let irrational exuberance get the better of them and make a very bad financial decision by following through and buying one of these. Once you add a few options, it’s easily a $50k+ car. Very few people should spend that much on a car (although many do, regardless).

green/new/shiny/techy is not Detroit.

My response to your second paragraph would be that the irrational exuberancers are well aware of their irrational exuberance, making it sort of ironically rational. They know what they’re getting into, which is allowing Musk to be a true game changer. Think: POTUS #45, though I tend to think Tesla is more constructive than 45.

If I had the dough for a Tesla, I’d be buying a CTS-V.

I just had a chat with one of our counselors. She was wondering if I was interested in having a “Restorative circle/talk” with the group of kids I had so much trouble from last term. It’s a new idea around here, is this something your familiar with? Any thoughts on the matter? I don’t have those kids anymore, but I said sure. Not like I have anything to lose.

Kinja'd!!!1

I have lots of experience with that process.

I worked as an AP in a super-tough concrete prison of a high school for a year several years ago, in Oakland. RJ, as we called it (restorative justice) was brilliant. Kids would get into a conflict and there’d be no way out because they had to save face. We’d have a restorative circle, which amounted to the two youth in conflict sitting with an adult and airing their differences and agreeing in virtually every case to “squash” it. The process was recognized by the other youth on campus and whatever the difference was, and it was usually trivial, it would quickly be forgotten by everyone.

Where restorative circles and RJ fall flat is where there’s not enough resource to do it thoroughly. A talk now and again, but it doesn’t go anywhere. The question I’d suggest you ask is what are the specific aims of the meeting(s). If aim is to help develop emotional intelligence and a sense of personal discipline, then great. And all the grownups involved have to recognize that it takes time to grow up . More importantly, all the adults must accept that punishment accomplishes nothing. Or at least, nothing constructive. What are the aims? That’s what I’d be asking.

I’m 40 in 3 days, and still drive a manual 60+ miles every day for my commute. Plan to continue to do that as long as I’m physically capable, but definitely see the appeal of a good auto (we put 25k per year on my wife’s MDX - our family trip car).

I enjoy driving a good automatic transmission. Most people just moosh on the gas and don’t think about it. I operate the mechanism. I’d have made a good pilot. I will be remembered as one of the best pilots who never flew.
